New Sustainable Milestone for Dubai International Airport
Dubai International Airport (DXB) has received global recognition for its efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
This is by earning Level 4 ‘Transformation’ from the Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program.
The “Transformation” certification is awarded to airports that have successfully reduced emissions and promoted regular change with partners.
Starting from September 2024, DXB is among the top 5% of participating airports worldwide to achieve this milestone.
Dubai Airports Support the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategy, But How ?

- Using modern technologies
Dubai International Airport Reduces Carbon Emissions by 3,500 Tons
Dubai International Airport has made significant progress through key initiatives and partnerships.
Those initiatives and partnerships aim to promote environmentally sustainable aviation practices.
Dnata has successfully converted its non-electric fleet and ground support equipment to run on biodiesel.
This was in collaboration with Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC).
As a result it reduced carbon emissions by more than 3,500 tons annually.
This initiative underscores the vital role of partnerships in achieving sustainability goals in the aviation sector.
Decreased Reliance on Non-renewable Energy Sources
The partnership with Etihad Energy Services has led to a comprehensive initiative.
This initiative upgraded buildings, lighting systems, and solar energy integration.
And it significantly improved energy efficiency and reduced reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
In addition, the partnership with Bee’ah resulted in an innovative plan to process food waste at the airport, reducing landfill waste by 60%.
Other successful initiatives include active participation in “Airports of Tomorrow” to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
This initiative focuses on critical areas such as energy, infrastructure, and finance.
While “Follow the Greens” system at Dubai International Airport is optimizing aircraft taxiing routes and reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
