Dubai International Airport Maintains Regional Dominance in Busiest Flight Routes for December
In December 2023, Dubai International Airport solidified its position as the regional leader, claiming 80% of the busiest flight routes.
8 out of the 10 busiest regional routes originated from or flew into Dubai.
While the airport captured approximately 60% of the most congested routes across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East throughout 2023.
The surge in activity at Dubai International Airport was fueled by the expansion of national carriers.
In addition to the resurgence of tourism, and the thriving meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Moreover, the launch of new destinations and increased flight frequencies by national carriers Emirates and Flydubai, both on existing and new routes, contributed significantly to the influx of passengers and revived movement across various routes through Dubai.

Cairo-Jeddah route ranked first in the region in terms of scheduled international flight seat capacity in December, with approximately 399,300 seats.
Top Regional Routes:
- Dubai-Riyadh: 374,200 seats
- Dubai-London Heathrow: 283,700 seats
- Dubai-Jeddah: 271,100 seats
- Mumbai-Dubai: 241,100 seats
- Cairo-Riyadh: 224,900 seats
Coming in at seventh place was the Dubai-Kuwait route with 218,000 seats.
Followed by Delhi-Dubai with 207,800 seats, Manama-Dubai with 183,300 seats, and Dubai-Istanbul with 173,400 seats.

OAG Aviation data also revealed that Dubai International Airport retained its position as the world’s largest airport.
This was in terms of scheduled international flight seat capacity in 2023.
In addition to the fact that the airport climbed three positions to become the second busiest airport globally.
Considering both domestic and international seat capacity.
The data showed that the airport recorded 56.5 million scheduled international flight seats in 2023.
Which highlight a 25% increase compared to the 45.3 million international seat capacity recorded in 2022.
