Totally New GigaFarm At Dubai Food Tech Valley
Dubai Food Tech Valley project has officially started the construction of a “GigaFarm.”
A development that underscores the UAE’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions for sustainable food production.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by notable figures, including:
- Her Excellency Dr. Amina Abdullah Al Dhahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment
- Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Food Diversity
- Jonathan Reynolds, UK Minister for Trade
- Edward Hobart, British Ambassador to the UAE
- As well as several other dignitaries and officials
Sustainable Food Security
Her Excellency Dr. Amina Al Dhahak emphasized that the UAE aims to set a global example in food security.
By promoting innovation and building sustainable food systems that support growth and a better future.
She noted that Dubai Food Tech Valley and its global partnerships aim to support advanced food and agriculture systems.
Dr. Al Dhahak added that the UAE believes in collaboration to establish sustainable food security both locally and globally.
With a focus on sharing expertise and technologies to address challenges, including limited water resources and arable land.
Food Tech Valley will play a pivotal role in increasing local food production.
This is through eco-friendly and climate-smart agriculture, fulfilling the National Food Security Strategy 2051.
About Dubai’s GigaFarm
The “GigaFarm,” is covering an area of 900,000 square feet.
It marks a milestone toward building a sustainable food production ecosystem.
Mentioning that it is a collaborative effort between ReFarm™ and Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS).
The initiative was announced during COP28 as part of the UAE’s strategy to reduce emissions and enhance food security.

The project incorporates six innovative farming technologies in a closed system to enhance resource efficiency, minimize waste, and prevent landfill.
Set to commence food production by 2025, the GigaFarm is expected to yield over 3 million kilograms of produce annually.
Utilizing AI-supported vertical farming techniques from IGS.
It will also help process over 50,000 tons of food waste yearly through sustainable solutions, converting waste into usable resources.
