Dubai Culture opens submissions to “Al Marmoom Short Film Competition.”
Dubai Culture, the organization responsible for promoting culture and the arts in Dubai, has announced that submissions to “Al Marmoom Short Film Competition” are open.
This competition is part of the fourth edition of “Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert” festival.
The festival aims to enrich the local cinematic scene and provide an innovative platform.
This platform will support filmmakers, inspire emerging talents, and encourage their entry into the field.
Filmmakers From All Over the World Are Invited by Dubai Culture
Dubai Culture invites filmmakers from the local, regional, and global cinema community to participate and submit their works for the festival.
The event will take place at Al Marmoom Desert Reserve from January 3 to 12, 2025.
Starting today (August 14, 2024), Dubai Culture will accept participation requests and film submissions.
The deadline for submissions is September 30.
After which a specialized committee—comprising experts and directors—will review the entries and evaluate the participating films.
Al Marmoom Short Film Competition Categories:
Al Marmoom Short Film Competition includes several categories:
- Documentary films
- Animation (including stop-motion)
- Live-action films
- Films created using artificial intelligence.
Selection criteria will focus on quality and content.
Dubai Culture open call welcomes filmmakers—whether working individually or in groups, from the UAE, the region, and around the world.
Conditions
Dubai Culture encourages participants to present distinctive ideas that reflect their artistic vision and commitment to innovation.
The submitted work should be original, recent, not previously screened at any local, regional, or global festival, and have a duration ranging from 3 to 30 minutes.
Additionally, films should adhere to ethical standards.
They should avoid any content that disrespects public morals, religions, or societies.
Participants must also retain all rights to their work.

In the third edition of the festival, over 70 films were showcased.
Leaving their mark through the contributions of Emirati, Gulf, Arab, and international filmmakers.
“Al Marmoom Short Film Competition” featured 56 short films across various categories.
The event also hosted dialogues, specialized workshops, exhibitions, and artistic works inspired by the history of cinema.
