DEWA Employees Recycle Over 499,000 Plastic and Aluminum Containers in 14 Months
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) employees recycled 499,541 plastic and aluminum containers over 14 months from October 2022 to December 2023.
The amount is equivalent to 7,108 kilograms of waste that was diverted from landfills.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) provides smart machines in several of its buildings to recycle plastic and aluminum containers.
These machines are operated through the employee’s smart office app.
The machine reads the QR code on the smart app and the employee receives points as award for each recycling transaction.
Then DEWA employees enter a raffle to win valuable monthly prizes.
As of December 2023, 49 employees have been recognized.
Optimizing Resource Use
DEWA’s recycling initiatives support the UAE’s circular economy policy.
As well as DEWA’s circular economy strategy, which focus on optimizing resource use.
This is by enhancing social, economic, and environmental value and encouraging sustainable practices, including recycling and waste reduction.
These efforts also support Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041.
Which aims to encourage innovation in waste management, recycling, and waste-to-energy conversion.
It also seeks to provide practical solutions to environmental challenges.
13 Awareness Campaigns
DEWA has organized 13 awareness campaigns for employees.
Through which, DEWA highlighted the importance of adopting a conscious and sustainable lifestyle by following sustainable practices at home and work.
These events promote sustainable practices at home and in the workplace.
Including improving the efficiency of electricity and water consumption, reducing waste, and reducing the consumption of plastic materials.
DEWA employees are also encouraged to reuse and recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
