Culture Summit Abu Dhabi 2024 Kicks Off
The 6th edition of the Culture Summit Abu Dhabi kicked off yesterday at Manarat Al Saadiyat under the theme “A Matter of Time.”
The event brought together leading global thinkers from over 90 countries.
The summit’s first day explored the role of culture in creating shared memories while considering alternatives to the linear concept of time.
Opening Remarks by the Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, welcomed the attendees, he stated:
“Culture Summit Abu Dhabi convenes this year under the theme “A Matter of Time.”
Moreover, it aims to discuss critical issues and seek concrete solutions for global communities.
And it’s a great honor to host such a distinguished group of thinkers, artists, changemakers, and leaders from various nationalities.
The voices of all participants will reach a global audience through the culture summit.”
Keynote Address
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak introduced world-renowned poet and philosopher Adonis, who delivered the summit’s first keynote address.
Adonis focused on:
- The framework of human connection to different timeframes.
- Humanity’s capacity for creativity.
- The potential of machines in fulfilling human dreams.
- The dominance of machines in the present era.
- The true strength of humanity lies in its ability to ask questions.
Culture Summit Abu Dhabi 2024 Opening Session
The first day’s events also included an opening session featuring a conversation between veteran journalist Mona El Shazly and Emirati artist and Goodwill Ambassador Hussain Al Jassmi.
Hussain Al Jassmi highlighted the UAE’s dedication to nurturing creative individuals.
Especially during the early stages of their talent development and refinement.
He shared his personal artistic journey.
Emphasizing on the significant support he received from his surroundings and the country’s leadership.
His meeting with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was a pivotal moment for him.
Al Jassmi described the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan as the primary supporter of creative talents in the UAE.

He affirmed that this approach has never wavered and that the wise leadership spares no effort in providing all necessary support to creative individuals.
Al Jassmi emphasized that cultural exchange goes hand-in-hand with the ability of civilizations and artists alike to coexist, create harmony, and present a comprehensive artistic and creative movement.
Mentioning that the UAE serves as a prime example of this harmony, embracing residents from over 200 nationalities.
This translates into more than 200 cultures being circulated on various levels.
Which constitutes a cultural treasure and inevitably contributes to enriching the creative repertoire of artists.
