Arab countries intend to launch new climate initiatives.
And also to complete a number of previously announced initiatives
during their participation in COP28 from November 30 to December 12.
These initiatives come within the framework of Arab countries efforts to implement the Paris Agreement
And the goal of net zero emissions.
In order to achieve the goals of sustainable economic development and to confront climate change.
Despite the limited contribution of Arab countries to greenhouse gas emissions, the Arab region is among the most affected regions by climate change.
Expanded adoption of renewable energy sources in Arab Countries.
The adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy by Arab countries has increased.
And these countries have also extended their role in compensatory measures.
Such as tree planting, carbon capture technologies and recycling of carbon dioxide in the framework of the circular economy.
During COP27, which was in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the overwhelming majority of members of the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) pledged to provide joint funding by 2030 amounting to a cumulative $24 billion to address the global climate crisis.
Arab cooperation in the field of climate is increasing through several initiatives.
The most prominent of which is the “Green Middle East” initiative.
Which aims at supporting the region’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions by 10% of global contributions.
And also to reduce carbon emissions from oil production in the region by more than 60%.
The initiative also aims to plant 50 billion trees in the Middle East.
The number is equivalent to 5% of the global tree planting target.
Which will contribute to reducing carbon emissions worldwide by 2.5%.
Tens of initiatives
The UAE has launched dozens of national and regional initiatives in many sectors.
Including space, environment, health and energy.
In order to enhance the path of sustainable development and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
