COP28 summit enhances Abu Dhabi strategy to face climate change.
Last time we talked about the Low-Carbon Techs which Enhance Abu Dhabi Climate Change Strategy.
This year, COP28 summit will take place in Dubai Expo and it will be held from 30 November to 12 December 2023.
The United Arab Emirates was among the pioneers in adopting “sustainability” as one of the main pillars of its development strategy.
The United Nations has defined net zero emissions as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible.
Without any remaining emissions absorbed from the atmosphere, for example by oceans and forests.
Under the title “A livable climate. Commitments to reduce emissions must be supported by bold and credible actions“
The UN report states the following:
Science shows that the increase in global average temperature must be limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
In order to avoid the worst effects of climate change and protect a livable planet.
Currently, the Earth has warmed by about 1.1 degrees Celsius since the late 19th century, with emissions continuing to rise.
As required by the Paris Agreement – in 2030 we have to reduce emissions by 45%.
Also, net-zero by 2050 to keep global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The UAE supports the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Moreover, the UAE was the first country in the region to join Paris agreement and sign its terms.
Also it is the first country to convert its energy supplies to clean energy by transitioning to renewable energy sources.
As well as setting a plan to reach climate neutrality by 2050.

The transition to a net-zero world is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity.
We will only achieve a net-zero world through a complete transformation of how we produce, consume, and move.
The energy sector is responsible for about three-quarters of greenhouse gas emissions today and is key to avoiding the worst effects of climate change.
Replacing polluting energy from coal, gas, and oil with energy from renewable sources, such as wind or solar, would significantly reduce carbon emissions.
The UAE Hosting COP28:
In a letter dated 13 January 2023, the UNFCCC Secretariat announced that Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, has been appointed to serve as COP 28 President-Designate.
The COP 27 Egyptian Presidency and the Incoming COP 28 Presidency are convening informal consultations to engage governments at the ministerial, Head-of-Delegation.
and Also technical levels to lay the groundwork “to deliver a successful COP 28 that drives global transformation towards a low-emission.
As well as climate-resilient world, fosters ambitious climate action and facilitates implementation, including the related support”.
The first Global Stocktake of the implementation of the Paris Agreement will conclude at COP 28.
Each stocktake is a two-year process that happens every five years.
With the aim of assessing the world’s collective progress towards achieving its climate goals.
The first Global Stocktake takes place at the mid-point in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs, including Goal 13 (climate action).
