Climate Neutrality refers to the idea of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
This is by balancing those emissions so they are equal (or less than) the emissions that get removed through the planet’s natural absorption.
In basic terms it means we reduce our emissions through climate action.
The UAE Aims At Achieving Climate Neutrality
During COP28, the UAE led several international initiatives to increase the industry’s contribution to achieving global carbon reduction targets.
To achieve climate neutrality goals, the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology has signed a joint declaration of intent with the German state of Baden-Württemberg to strengthen cooperation in several key areas:
- Industrial accelerators: Supporting the growth of promising startups and businesses in both regions.
- Supply chain resilience: Collaborating to build more robust and adaptable supply chains.
- Advanced technology solutions: Sharing knowledge and expertise on developing and deploying cutting-edge technologies.
- Carbon reduction in the industrial sector: Working together to decrease industrial emissions and achieve climate neutrality.
This agreement was signed during the Munich Security Conference held in Munich, Germany, from February 16-18, 2024.
Signatories:
- H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber: Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE

Where it led several international initiatives to increase the industry’s contribution to achieving global carbon reduction targets.
One of the most prominent examples is the launch of the Carbon Reduction Roadmap for the Industrial Sector.
Which serves as a pioneering model for phasing out carbon emissions and achieving a 93% reduction by 2050.”
“This cooperation with Baden-Württemberg complements these efforts.
And will also contribute to achieving a smooth and responsible transition in the energy sector.
