Department of Culture Announces the Winner of Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity
The Department of Culture has announced that the distinguished Syrian director and actor Assaad Feddah has won the 18th Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity (2025).
This award is n recognition of his rich theatrical career, filled with achievements and successes.
It is also an acknowledgment of his constructive roles and contributions in promoting and enriching the Arab theatre movement for more than half a century.
Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity was established in 2007.
This was under the directives and sponsorship of HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah.
It is an annual artistic and cultural event accompanying Sharjah Theatre Days.
Celebrating the efforts and experiences of the pioneers and icons of Arab theatre.
Who is the Winner of the 18th Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity ?
Assaad Feddah (born in 1938) expressed his happiness upon winning, saying:
“I was overwhelmed with joy when I was informed of this news.
I can’t find the words to express my pride and honor with this prestigious award.
Thank you very much to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.
May Allah prolong his life.
We are accustomed to these generous initiatives,
As they support creativity and culture in general and the theatre and theatre artists in particular.”

Career of Assaad Feddah
Assaad Feddah has had a prominent presence.
He also had a widespread influence in the Syrian theatrical scene over several decades.
He is a director, actor, administrator, and academic.
Since the mid-1960s, he has directed around thirty theatrical performances for Western and Arab writers.
He has played leading roles in about twenty plays, including:
“Death of a Salesman” in 1969, “Joan of Arc” in 1971, “Oedipus the King” in 1973, “Diary of a Madman” in 1976, and others.
He has also contributed to the direction and acting in many theatre and television masterpieces.
Assaad Feddah will receive the award at the opening ceremony of the 34th Sharjah Theatre Days.
Which will commence on the 19th of February next year.
