U.S. President Donald Trump extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims of the crash between an American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk helicopter.
The incident occurred as the passenger plane was attempting to land at Reagan National Airport in Washington during a domestic flight on Wednesday.
It collided midair with a military helicopter near the airport, according to the White House and aviation officials.
The crash led to the suspension of all flights in the area.
Trump offers condolences to the victims
Speaking about American Airlines Plane accident in a statement, President Trump said:
“I have been fully briefed on the horrific incident that just occurred at Reagan National Airport.
May God bless their souls.
Thank you to our first responders for their outstanding work.
I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they emerge.”

Similarly, Vice President J.D. Vance offered prayers in a statement on social media:
“Please pray for everyone involved in the midair collision near Reagan Airport this evening.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that he was “on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) headquarters, closely monitoring the situation.”
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt told Fox News earlier in the day that President Trump had been briefed, stating:
“It appears that a military helicopter collided with a domestic passenger plane.”
Emergency services in Washington, D.C., were searching the Potomac River near the airport following the crash, which occurred just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

No Confirmed Information on the Casualties of American Airlines Plane Crash
The airline confirmed that 60 passengers and four crew members were on board Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C., when the collision occurred.
NBC Washington reported that at least four people had been pulled to safety by rescue teams from the water.
The FAA stated that the aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ700, collided with a Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk helicopter while approaching Runway 33.
Defense officials confirmed that the Black Hawk helicopter belonged to the U.S. Army and was carrying three soldiers at the time.
The D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, Metropolitan Police, and multiple partner agencies are currently conducting a search-and-rescue operation in the Potomac River.
“There is no confirmed information on casualties at this time,” officials said.
