Rise in Air Traffic Between UAE and Saudi Arabia During Ramadan
There’s a noticeable uptick in air traffic between UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Due to the increased demand for Umrah pilgrimages during the holy month of Ramadan, peaking during the last ten days.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed that there is 13.3% increase in the number of flights between the UAE and Saudi Arabia during March.
Which marked the beginning of Ramadan.
This translates to around 383 weekly flights compared to 338 weekly flights in February.
Airlines Increased Their Flights:
Flydubai: Increased flights by 40%, from 93 weekly flights in February to 130 flights in March.
These flights cover destinations like:
Abha, Jazan, Neom, AlUla, Qurayyat, Dammam, Qassim, Hail, Hofuf, Jeddah, Riyadh, Medina, Taif, Yanbu, Najran, and Tabuk.
Etihad Airways: Increased flights by over 22.2%, from 63 flights in February to 77 flights in March, serving Dammam, Jeddah, and Riyadh.
It also reported successfully transporting around 45,000 passengers to their destinations in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan and Umrah season.
Emirates: Operated around 67 weekly flights to Saudi Arabia in March, covering Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, and Riyadh.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi: Had around 21 weekly flights including Dammam and Medina.
Air Arabia: Offered around 88 weekly flights to destinations including Abha, Jouf, Dammam, Qassim, Hail, Jeddah, Medina, Riyadh, Taif, Yanbu, and Tabuk.
The Top Choice
Jeddah emerged as the top choice among travelers from Etihad Airways’ destinations in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan.
Flights to Jeddah achieved a passenger occupancy rate exceeding 95%, reflecting high demand and efficient service.
Mentioning that the major source countries for travelers to Saudi Arabia during this period are the UAE, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
Etihad Airways operates flights to three destinations in the Kingdom using a diverse range of aircraft:
- Dammam and Riyadh: Served by Airbus A320 aircraft.
- Jeddah: Served by Airbus A320, Boeing 777, and Boeing 787 aircraft.

Etihad Airways Services to Jeddah
Significantly, Etihad Airways permanently increased its services to Jeddah and Riyadh starting from March 15th.
The airline currently operates a total of 77 weekly flights, distributed as follows:
- 28 flights to Jeddah
- 28 flights to Riyadh
- 21 flights to Dammam
The huge number of flights indicates a rise in air traffic between UAE and Saudi Arabia during Ramadan, particularly for Umrah pilgrimages.
These figures also showcase the commitment of airlines to cater to passenger needs and provide convenient and efficient travel options.
