AI Safety: Safe and reliable development of AI
The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that it plans to hold a global summit on AI Safety “the safe use of artificial intelligence”.
As the Congress faces significant challenges in establishing regulations for this technology.
The first meeting of the International Network of Authorities on AI Safety is set to be hosted by Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Secretary of State Antony Blinken on November 20 and 21 in San Francisco “to enhance global cooperation toward the safe and reliable development of AI.”
Global Network for AI Safety
The network includes members from:
Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, Japan, Kenya, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Generative AI, which can create text, images, and videos based on user commands, has sparked excitement.
As well as concerns that it may replace some human jobs, affect electoral processes, and surpass human capabilities, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences.
Raimondo announced the launch of the Global Network for AI Safety during an AI summit in Seoul in May.
Where countries agreed to prioritize safety in AI use, innovation, and inclusivity.
New AI Regulations
The meeting in San Francisco aims to initiate joint cooperation ahead of the AI Action Summit in Paris in February.
Raimondo stated:
“The goal is close and thoughtful coordination with our allies and partners who share the same mindset..
We want AI regulations to be grounded in safety, security, and trust.”
Mentioning that San Francisco meeting will include technical experts from AI safety institutions in each member country or their equivalent governmental bodies.
And they will: discuss priority areas, enhance global cooperation, and exchange knowledge on the safe use of AI.
