An achievement that recognizes their initiatives supporting renewable energy projects in the Pacific and Caribbean islands.
HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, shared this news on “X” platform.
He emphasized the UAE’s commitment to sustainability—an enduring legacy established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The UAE’s wise leadership has adopted several strategic policies.
Aiming at accelerating global adoption of renewable energy projects and achieving sustainable economic development in small island nations.
The winning initiatives, funded by the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, represent a strategic partnership between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).
Some initiatives by Abu Dhabi Development Fund
These initiatives have accelerated the transition to renewable energy.
Also, they reduced reliance on fossil fuels, enhanced energy security, and expanded climate action in the Caribbean and Pacific regions.
Notably, the UAE is the first institution in the Middle East and North Africa to receive this award on behalf of the UAE.
Wind farm in Samoa
Among the successful projects, the wind farm in Samoa stands out.
Designed with hurricane-resistant turbines, it provides continuous energy to 75% of Samoa’s population.
Significantly reducing diesel consumption and carbon emissions.
Hybrid power station in Antigua and Barbuda
Similarly, the hurricane-resistant hybrid power station in Antigua and Barbuda ensures reliable and sustainable electricity supply for the entire island.
And also contributing to the country’s goal of producing 86% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Solar power station in Marshall Islands
Additionally, a solar power station with a capacity of 600 kW in Marshall Islands.
The station is built near a reservoir in Majuro and it increases water storage capacity by over 20%.
This project saves 236,000 liters of diesel annually.
In addition, it reduces annual carbon dioxide emissions by 652 tons.
Similar renewable energy projects in Nauru, the Solomon Islands, Micronesia, Kiribati, Fiji, Tuvalu, and Tonga have delivered both environmental and economic benefits.
