Review of Preliminary Design for The UAE Asteroid Mission
The UAE Asteroid Mission held a review of the preliminary design for the mission between February 19 and 21, 2024.
This review aimed to ensure the success and safety of the space mission, and to highlight the latest details and developments surrounding it.

The UAE Asteroid Mission Details:
- Duration: 13 years:
- 6 years to develop and design the spacecraft
- 7 years to explore the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter
- Conducting a series of close flybys to collect first-time data on 7 asteroids in the main belt
- Mission concludes with the seventh asteroid, “Justicia”
- The “MBR Explorer” spacecraft carries a suite of advanced scientific instruments
Scientific objectives:
- Understanding the origins and evolution of water-rich asteroids
- Assessing the potential use of asteroids as resources for future space exploration missions
- Measuring the surface composition, geology, and internal density of several asteroids in the main belt
- Measuring temperature and thermophysical properties on multiple asteroids to evaluate their surface evolution and history
National participation in the mission:
The national team participating in the mission includes graduates from the National Space Academy.
In addition to several national companies are leading the design of the lander for the Justicia asteroid.
This participation contributes to strengthening the future capabilities and potential of the national space sector.
