The United Arab Emirates participated in the 163rd session of the Arab League Council.
The session began yesterday in the League’s General Secretariat headquarters at the level of permanent representatives.
The UAE was represented by Maryam Al Kaabi, the country’s ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League.
What are the key topics discussed at the 163rd session of Arab League Council ?
The agenda of the current session included several key items covering political, economic, social, legal, financial, and administrative issues. Most notably the topic of joint Arab action.
This included the report of the Secretary-General of Arab League between the 162nd and 163rd sessions.
As well as the draft agenda of the 34th regular Arab Summit, scheduled to be held in Baghdad on May 17.

Arab-Israeli Conflict
The draft agenda also included a special item on the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
It encompassed various subtopics such as:
- The latest political developments
- The activation of the Arab Peace Initiative
- Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem
- support for the Palestinian budget and the resilience of the Palestinian people
- Arab water security
- Israel’s theft of water in occupied Arab territories
- The occupied Syrian Arab Golan
Permanent Items Related to Arab Affairs and National Security
The meeting also addressed permanent items related to Arab affairs and national security, including:
- The situations in Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia
- Solidarity with Lebanon
- Developments in Syria
- Iran’s occupation of the three Emirati islands
- Maritime security and energy supplies in the Arabian Gulf
- Forming a unified Arab stance against Turkish violations of Iraqi sovereignty
- Supporting peace and development in Sudan
- Aid to Somalia and the Comoros
- The peaceful resolution of the Djibouti-Eritrea border dispute
- The Ethiopian dam issue

International Political Affairs
The draft agenda further included international political affairs, such as:
- The threat of Israeli armament to Arab national security and international peace
- The creation of a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction
- Strengthening Arab cooperation in cybersecurity
- Ensuring the security of information and communications technology in the context of international security
163rd Session of Arab League Council Discusses Arab Regional and Global Relations
Also included were discussions on Arab relations with regional and international organizations and blocs.
Along with files on climate issues, legal matters concerning Arab national security, the development of the Arab counterterrorism system, administrative and financial issues, and a section on new business.
Specifically, a report on the follow-up of initiatives proposed by the Kingdom of Bahrain during the 33rd Arab Summit.
The permanent representatives are expected to submit the draft agenda and associated resolutions to the 163rd ministerial session of the Arab League Council, to be held at the level of Arab foreign ministers for final approval and adoption.
