Coronavirus Field hospital at Dubai World Trade Centre with the capacity to treat 3,000 COVID-19 patients opens Thursday

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is still spreading across the world. Many more will infect before every nation is able to truly stamp it out. In preparation for a potential surge in infections, the United Arab Emirates has converted the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) into a field hospital.

1,000 beds available immediately

Plans put into place to use the DWTC as a field hospital with enough room for 3,000 patients. The first stage of this plan is already in action and 1,000 beds are available for use as of Thursday. Officials have stated that further beds will become available if and when there is a need for them.

Dubai has already taken steps to increase the capacity of its medical facilities. The UAE is totally prepared to deal with all cases of Coronavirus. There are plenty of medical supplies available and healthcare professionals are ready to respond to an uptick in infections.

There are currently somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 beds available in Dubai hospitals should the pandemic worsen. Authorities were quick to state that capacities can and will increase if it is necessary.

Five star treatment for Coronavirus patients

Patients who forced to self isolate in Dubai found their experience a little more comfortable than those in many other countries. Authorities have been putting them up in five star hotels for the duration of their quarantine period.

While there are currently plenty of hospital beds available, these same hotels could come to serve as medical facilities. Authorities prepared to act swiftly to convert them into field hospitals if the number of infections reaches a crisis level.
