Roadmap To 6G in the UAE Unveiled
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap to lead research and studies related to developing 6G in the UAE.
The plan aims to bridge the gap between current telecommunications services and future requirements.
This is in light of the growing expectations of society and the economic sector in the coming years.
Towards achieving a comprehensive, integrated, and interconnected digital life.
The Radiocommunication Assembly (RA-23) meeting adopted a decision directing stakeholders in the telecommunications sector to develop technical standards and specifications for 6G in the UAE.
Implementing 6G is in line with the UAE’s future directions.
Including the UAE Centennial 2071 and the “We the UAE 2031” vision.
Which emphasizes establishing the UAE’s position as a global center for the new economy and building the most pioneering and superior system.
Sustainability and Digital Inclusion
The initiative aligns with the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability and digital inclusion.
It is also enhancing security and privacy measures, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The 6G network will introduce a range of new capabilities.
Including artificial intelligence applications, network virtualization, sensing capabilities, and comprehensive coverage.
The plan also includes improving existing 5G capabilities.
Such as spectrum efficiency, connection density, mobility within a single area, and response time.
6G in the UAE will support digitally connecting human senses (sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell) across the globe with low latency and high accuracy.
It is also enabling more capabilities for intelligent robots.
As well as improvements in artificial intelligence for autonomous intelligent transportation systems, and advancements in healthcare.
Roadmap Timeline
The roadmap outlines a timeline starting in 2024 with the formation of the UAE 6G Committee.
Which will conduct research and studies, develop technical standards and specifications for 6G, and disseminate these studies through the International Telecommunication Union and international standards and specifications institutes (IEEE and 3GPP).
There is also a possibility to conduct 6G trials in order develop the technology through a comprehensive 6G technology ecosystem.
