$5 million allocated by the UAE to Support Sudan
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) received $5 million in funding from the UAE.
This is according to a significant agreement signed between the UAE and FAO to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and prevent the imminent threat of famine.
Additionally, the UAE signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to allocate $5 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund.
Over the past decade, the UAE’s total contributions to Sudan have exceeded $3.5 billion.
The agreement with FAO was signed at the UAE Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The FAO received $5 million from the UAE, directed toward the project “Mitigating Famine in Sudan and Supporting Smallholder Agricultural Projects and Conflict-Affected Pastoralist Families.”
The one-year project aims to provide emergency assistance in crop and livestock sectors.
It targets approximately 275,000 households of small-scale farmers and vulnerable pastoralists, benefiting around 1.375 million people.
It will also support livelihoods in emergency situations for 155,000 smallholder and vulnerable farming households.
Equivalent to nearly 775,000 individuals.
FAO Appreciates the UAE for its generous glance
Abdulhakim Alwaer, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for FAO, expressed deep appreciation for the UAE’s generous contribution.
He stated that this support is crucial for achieving the objectives of FAO’s 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan.
As the plan aims to deliver assistance to 1.8 million households and ensure livelihoods for 9 million people in Sudan.
The UAE also signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
According to the agreement, it allocated $5 million to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF).

Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, expressed profound gratitude to the UAE government and people for their generous support.
He emphasized that this allocation will enhance life-saving assistance to families and communities in Sudan.
The UAE remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the crisis, advocating for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.
Military solutions are not viable, and parties to the conflict must return to the negotiating table.
The UAE’s long-term support demonstrates its commitment to Sudan’s prosperity and regional stability, aligning with sustainable development goals.
